Barkley Smith & The King Bains / Live Music, Rock

Sat 8Dec
8:00 PM

Note: This event has finished

Barkley Smith were formed in 2011, when lead singer and songwriter, Gareth Barkley-Smith recruited Michael McMaster (bass/vocals), Matt McKenzie (drums/vocals) and Matt Mason (guitar/vocals) to join him on his quest to create a unique rock band, with its roots very firmly in the early 70’s classic sound.

Inspired by the early sounds of Pink Floyd, Peter Green, Free, Bad company, Led Zeppelin and modern exponents

of classic rock such as Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters, they set about rehearsing and honing their sound to create a dynamic live entity. Whilst rehearsing at the renowned Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield (Richard Hawley, Arctic Monkeys, Duane Eddy), they attracted the attention of record producer Steve Booker, famed for his work with Duffy, Dionne Bromfield, Rebecca Ferguson and the Sugarbabes.

Steve was looking to branch out from his acknowledged soul/beat/retro genre and saw Barkley Smith as the ideal band to launch his new Eat My Cake label. His enthusiasm has led to writing and recording sessions taking place in his London ‘Cake’ Studios, the results of which have already caused a stir within record and publishing companies in the capital.

Barkley Smith debuted their live set at The Bearded Theory festival in the summer of 2012, winning rave reviews and immediately gaining more recruits to their quickly expanding fan-base. They are continuing to sharpen up the live set with shows around Sheffield and the North of England, before heading to London for gigs, these being programmed to coincide with the release of their first release in the autumn of 2012.
